Clitoral Hood Guide
The clitoral hood, also called the clit hood or prepuce, is one reason the clitoris may not appear as a clearly exposed button. It can cover the glans from above or around the sides.
Why the clit hood matters
When people say they cannot find the clit, they may be looking for a shape that is not visible on every body. The hood can make the glans subtler.
The hood also protects sensitive tissue. Direct pressure may feel too intense for some people, so communication matters.
Clitoral hood shapes
Clitoral hood shapes vary. Some hoods are shorter and leave more of the glans exposed. Others cover most of the glans, so the visible clit may look like a small bump under a fold rather than a separate round button.
An exposed clit and a covered clit are both normal anatomy patterns. The important landmark is the top of the vulva where the inner labia meet and the hood sits around the glans.
